My Travels

The Long Awaited Regensburg Adventure (May 31- June 2)

When I first went to Germany back in the rainy spring of 2013, I had never been part of a swing dancing group. I traveled with my boyfriend of the time and spent a lovely five months learning the language of the land, getting comfortable in the beautiful landscape of Regensburg. When I left, I hoped that it would not be my first and last time visiting, and for many years I missed  that lovely city. So, when I read on in 2018 that Regensburg had a swing dance group and was hosting their first Lindy exchange, I was excited to have a goal to work towards. I finally had an opportunity to go back to the city I loved.

Attending Dayton Swing Smackdown 2019

Hello again, guys and dolls! It’s been a while! Apologies if you missed me, I’ve been moving and adjusting to a new job at the same time. My presence here may be scarce for a little while longer due to using my spare time to unpack everything, but hopefully that won’t take too long.

I’m writing to you today because you may have seen that I went and attended an event recently. I got to attend the Dayton Swing Smackdown a couple weekends ago and I wanted to share my experience with you!

Year’s End and New Year’s Goals!

It’s always amazing to me how fast a year goes by, and it always seems to go faster when you’re having fun. I spent this year’s end at the ever wonderful big event that Cincyhop hosts each New Years Eve, and I couldn’t imagine a better way to ring in the New Year.

Christmas Cheer with Gem City Swing

When most people think about Christmas parties, dancing is not the first thing on their mind. Cookies, punch, and other goodies would usually be the first that most would think about. When I went to the American Czechoslovakian Club in Dayton this past Tuesday, the Gem City Swing Dance Club had all those and more.

Practicing At College Hill Town Hall

Practicing dance moves and learning more is always key to improving yourself as a dancer, and if this website venture is doing anything, it’s helping me do exactly that. My partner brought back stellar moves back from Denver, and the venue we went to go dancing last Sunday afforded us plenty of space to practice them.

A Night On The Town with The Cincinnati Blues Dance Crew

In the past, I’ve been told that I have only one gear when it comes to dancing. My partner and I dance fast and all out; the more expressive and flashy, the better. So about a week ago, we decided to slow down and give blues dancing a try!

My Day Trip To Minneapolis/Saint Paul

After I came up with the idea for this website, I had a feeling of a call to action; I wanted to go to the places that I was putting in my website to get a good feel for the atmosphere, the type of dance floor, the people and the bands. I tried to get a group of people to go with me. Life happened, and I ended up being the only one who was still going to go on the trip, but it helped me realize one very important thing: I was the only one stopping me from taking the step forward into adventure. Just because my friends couldn’t go with me, didn’t mean that I couldn’t go check these places out.

Welcome to Swing Around The Corner!

My fascination with swing dance first started in 2016, when I was working at a dairy in the middle of Wisconsin. A coworker found out about my love of big band music, and convinced me to go with her to a place called the Wabasha Street Caves in St. Paul, Minnesota. I went and soaked up the sounds, the atmosphere, and most of all, the energy. The entire environment was warm, engaging, and extremely friendly.
